Before Buying

What is a eSIM

An eSIM is an embedded SIM card available on eSIM capable devices. It provides a smarter and more convenient way to stay connected by allowing you to download data packs directly to your phone.

No more scrambling for SIM cards. No more worrying about losing your original SIM card!

It’s important to keep in mind that eSIMs will only work on eSIM compatible and network unlocked devices

In order to guarantee that you can use eSIM plans on your device, you can check our list of eSIM compatible devices, or you can go straight to your device’s settings in order to verify its eSIM capability:

Which devices support eSIM?

To use an eSIM, your device must be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible. Please reference the list below to see if your device supports eSIM technology. (Note that country and carrier-specific restrictions may apply.)*

Troubleshoot

Why cannot "Add Data Plan" after scanned QR code?

Please ensure the handset is connected to WiFi and retry.

I have activated the eSIM but still not connected to the internet

First of all DO NOT panic or delete / remove your eSIM, as doing so will require you to purchase a new eSIM and QR code.

It is important to contact us and let support assist you in identifying and rectifying any possible issues.

However, before contacting support or while waiting for an available representative, we recommend going through the following checklist:

  1. Pls check your iOS / Andriod is updated to the latest version
  2. Verify that you have installed your eSIM correctly, and make sure it is under ‘Cellular Plans’.
  3. If your eSIM is there, please make sure it is enabled/turned on
  4. Is your eSIM installed, but still unable to connect to the internet? Make sure your DATA ROAMING located under ‘Cellular Plans’ is enabled.
  5. Sometimes your device may need a proper RESTART in order for it to automatically connect to a network. A proper restart means restarting your phone and giving it several minutes in order to allow it to properly reconnect to a network (after this stage please make sure Data Roaming is on and try connecting to the internet again).
  6. If you have managed to successfully connect to a network and your Data Roaming is on but you are still unable to use your data plan or you believe your connection speed is too slow, we recommend configuring our APN by doing the following:

    Remove the existing APN
For "APN" - follow the table
Fields "username" & "password" - Follow the table below. If there is other value, please delete it

After, please restart your phone giving it several minutes in order to allow it to properly reconnect to a network (after this stage please make sure Data Roaming is on and try connecting to the internet again).

Why I cannot share hotspot with eSIM?

Due to different handset version, if you face hotspot sharing issue with your eSIM, please follow below steps:

  1. Ensure your phone is not a contract or locked phone
  2. Switch off the VPN
  3. Switch on the data roaming
  4. Set the eSIM as primary
  5. Ensure the iOS latest version is installed
  6. Use a physical SIM to connect to Internet, then switch on the personal hotspot function, then switch to connect Internet using eSIM. Please retry several times and restart handset.
  7. If the problem still persists, please contact our Customer Service team.

Other Questions

How much data is enough?

1. Understanding your Current Data Usage Patterns

A good guideline to see how much data you use is to check your current usage pattern!

Your local telco or phone itself will give you a monthly summary of how much data you’ve used in a month.
This will serve as a fantastic guideline on how much data you’ll use on your overseas trip.

Android Phone: Go to “Settings” then “Data Usage” and you’ll see how much data you used in a period of time.
iPhone: Go to “Settings” then “Cellular” and you’ll see how much data you have used.

You can also check your Telco’s Apps, such as “My Singtel”, “My M1” or “My StarHub” App.

2. What can I approximately do with 1GB of data?

1GB of data works out to (all these are estimates):

  • Sending/Receiving about 1 million emails without attachments or 2,000 emails with attachments.
  • Stream or download around 200 songs or 14 hours on Spotify (Standard Quality)
  • Stream or download around 1 hour worth of High Definition Videos
  • Uploading around 300 high definition photos
  • 8 hours of non-stop Facebook and Instagram with auto-play turned off
  • Using navigation non-stop (24/7) for 8 days

While all these are estimates, the best is to still check your own usage patterns with your monthly telco bill.

How do I configure my APN settings?

Your APN is your device’s ‘Access Point Name’. Typically, the APN settings should be automatically configured upon successful installation of the eSIM via scanning the provided QR code.

In the unlikely scenario, you may need to customize your device’s APN settings to get access to data. We have provided a list of APNs, based on your plan purchased.

Should I install eSIM before travel?

Special Tip: Don't set up your eSIM too early.

Each eSIM data plan has a limited number of days of service, so don't start installing and activating too early, or the billing will start counting down before the trip begins.

Best practice is to set up your data plan on the day of your travel.

Of course, there are 2 specific installation time points, one option is before you travel and leave, when you are still at home, and the second option is once you arrive at the destination airport, but it should be noted that you need a stable Wi- Fi connection is required to complete the eSIM installation process.

You may prefer to set up the eSIM earlier than this so you're not in such a rush. But remember, once you set up your eSIM, you can't pause your plan, so the expiration date will start counting down.

In addition, pay attention to the precise calculation method of service days, The activation date is the first day and expires at 24:00 on the last day. The date and time above refer to Hong Kong Time (UTC+8).

For example, if you have a 1-day serice days eSIM card, and you are currently in London, UK, and it is 13:00 London time, if you choose to activate immediately, the actual calculation start time is 21:00 Hong Kong time, and the actual validity period is only 3 hours.
